Fu­neral ser­vice for the late Kather­ine Jeanette Ann ‘Kaye’ Macneil, 82, Har­bour Cen­tre, Antigo­nish County, for­merly of Lag­gan, Pic­tou County, was held Septem­ber 20 in St. James United Church, Antigo­nish, with Rev­erend Peter Smith of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial was in St. Columba Ceme­tery, Lake­vale.

Mrs. Macneil died Septem­ber 17, 2018, in Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal.

Read­ers at the fu­neral ser­vice were Jen­nifer Macneil and Sharon Mac­don­ald. Mu­sic was pro­vided by John Pel­lerin.

Ac­tive pall­bear­ers were nieces and neph­ews Shara Mac­far­lane, Cordis Mac­don­ald, Cher Macinnes, Chet Chishom, Kyle Lesko and Joe Macneil.

Hon­orary pall­bear­ers were sis­ters and brother-in-law, Velma Hebb, Sharon Mac­don­ald, Lenore Grant, Doreen Chisholm, Car­roll Macpher­son, Joanne Pushie, Frances Macneil and Ronnie Macneil.

Born April 25, 1936, in Lag­gan, she was the daugh­ter of the late Tup­per and Emma (Ca­vanagh) Suther­land. Af­ter her high school grad­u­a­tion, she re­ceived her teach­ing cer­tifi­cate at Nor­mal School in Truro and started her teach­ing ca­reer at the age of 18 in a one room school house in Lag­gan. She mar­ried Lawrence Macneil in 1961 and they raised four chil­dren to­gether. She con­tin­ued a long and re­ward­ing teach­ing ca­reer at St. Ninian Street School and Mor­ri­son School in Antigo­nish. She en­joyed knit­ting for loved ones, read­ing and go­ing to yard sales. Her great­est joy was spend­ing time with her chil­dren and grand­chil­dren.

She is sur­vived by two sons, Ralph (Cathy) Macneil, Dou­glas Macneil, both of Antigo­nish; two daugh­ters, Velma (Wil­lie) Van­der­lin­den, Ann (Bill) Mac­far­lane, both of Antigo­nish; nine grand­chil­dren, Jen­nifer, Mark, Katie and Ken­dra Macneil; Sarah Van­der­lin­den; Frank, Mary, Lilly and Dun­can Mac­far­lane; many nieces, neph­ews and their fam­i­lies.

She was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Lawrence; brother, Ralph Suther­land.
