Fu­neral ser­vice for the late Bertha Is­abel Mabey, 86, New Glas­gow, was held Septem­ber 28 in P. & K. Mac­don­ald Fu­neral Home, New Glas­gow, with Rev­erend Dr. Glen Math­e­son of­fi­ci­at­ing.

Mrs. Mabey died Septem­ber 25, 2018, in Aberdeen Hos­pi­tal, New Glas­gow.

Born Jan­uary 14, 1932, in Canso, she was a daugh­ter of the late Mans­field Si­mon and Lila Louella (Felt­mate) Newell. Prior to re­tire­ment from Miche­lin Tire in 1991, she was em­ployed with the former Steven­son’s Dairy and Mayflower Res­tau­rant, Lyons Brook and, Hamil­ton’s Bis­cuits, Pic­tou. She greatly en­joyed par­tic­i­pat­ing in the Miche­lin bowl­ing league and at­tend­ing card par­ties at the so­cial club. She en­joyed knit­ting, read­ing, danc­ing, mu­sic and es­pe­cially, spend­ing time with fam­ily and friends. Prior to sick­ness, she faith­fully at­tended St. Ge­orge’s Angli­can Church, New Glas­gow.

She is sur­vived by two daugh­ters, Donna (Peter) Rice, Pic­tou; Fay (Gor­don) Carty, Antigo­nish; five grand­chil­dren, Tammy Bark­house, Dar­rell Bark­house, Rox­anne Smith, Troy Smith, Ja­son Carty; nine great-grand­chil­dren, Jen­nifer, Alex, Stephanie, Ri­ley, Travis, Natasha, Vic­to­ria, Kyle, An­nika; eight great-great-grand­chil­dren, Kegan, Ryan, Kadin, Kaylee, Ken­zie, Lu­cas, Owen, Lexus; sis­ter, Jean Green­corn, Half Is­land Cove; sis­ter-in-law, Ann Newell, New Glas­gow; many nieces and neph­ews.

She was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Harold Mabey; two sons, Ray­mond and Terry Bark­house; two great-grand­chil­dren, Bran­don, Nikki; three sis­ters, Edna Dort, Leona Ge­orge and Amanda ‘Mandy’ Felt­mate; four brothers, Cole­man (Blanche), Gor­don, Dou­glas, Stan­ley; daugh­ter-in-law, Con­nie Bark­house; sis­ters-in-law, El­iz­a­beth Newell; brother-in-law, Howard Green­corn.
