Ob­struc­tion charge

A man was placed on a pro­ba­tion or­der in Au­gust, with a con­di­tion that he re­main in his res­i­dence at all times, with some ex­cep­tions. Early Thurs­day, an of­fi­cer saw a cy­clist rid­ing on King Street West with­out proper light­ing and pulled him over. The cy­clist rode off, but even­tu­ally was stopped on School Street, where he gave the of­fi­cer a fake name. Fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­vealed his true iden­tity. A 27-year-old Chatham man is charged with ob­struct­ing po­lice and fail­ing to com­ply with his pro­ba­tion or­der. He was held for bail.
