The Chatham Daily News - - SPORTS -

Madison Broad of the Chatham Y Pool Sharks has signed with the University of Toledo.

The Wallaceburg native has won numerous medals at the Canadian age-group and junior championships. She also swam in three ‘A’ finals at the 2017 Canadian senior championships.

The Ursuline student has already met the NCAA

Division I standards in the

100 and 200 backstroke.

Broad is expected to join

Toledo for the

2019-20 season.

“She is a really talented swimmer and

(has) got a lot of potential,” Toledo coach Jonas Persson said in a news release from the Pool Sharks. “But I was mostly impressed with her attitude and enthusiasm for not only swimming, but with life. At Toledo, we focus on three things: One, having fun; two, training hard; and three, doing things the right way, and Madison fits in perfectly with that concept.

“My expectations of Madison are that she keeps on enjoying the sport, trains hard, and stays hungry for success. She will instantly be a contributor on the team and I’m very excited to be able to assist her in becoming an Olympian”
