Maroons to visit Stars
The Chatham Maroons will go for their sixth consecutive win Friday when they visit the St. Thomas Stars.
They’ll also host the St. Marys Lincolns at 7 p.m. Sunday at Chatham Memorial Arena.
The Maroons began their winning streak after losing four of their first nine games.
“At the beginning of the year we were a little slow and then we made some line changes,” Maroons captain Dane Johnstone said. “We’ve stuck to the systems Mac (head coach Kyle Makaric) was preaching and now all of us are seeing the results. It’s coming together really well so far.”
The winning streak has lifted the Maroons (10-2-0-2) to second place in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Western Conference with 22 points, nine behind the London Nationals (15-1-0-1).
The Maroons have played three fewer games than the Nationals.
The Maroons sent rookie forward Cameron Welch of Charing Cross to the Komoka Kings on Wednesday to complete their September trade for twin brothers Brett and Kyle Fisher. The 18-year-old Fishers were acquired for future considerations three days before the season opener. They’ve combined for 24 points – 13 by Brett and 11 by Kyle. Welch, 17, had one goal and one assist in 10 games.
