Forbes, Vin­goe re­ceive Mer­ritt award nom­i­na­tions

- Two Ship’s Com­pany The­atre per­for­mances are rep­re­sented in the nom­i­na­tions for Robert Mer­ritt Awards in recog­ni­tion of ex­cel­lence in Nova Sco­tian The­atre, an­nounced in Hal­i­fax this week by Christo­pher Shore, ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor of The­atre Nova Sco­tia.

Mary Vin­goe, noted di­rec­tor, ac­tor, and co­founder of Ship’s Com­pany The­atre in Parrs­boro, is nom­i­nated for Out­stand­ing Per­for­mance by an Ac­tress in a Sup­port­ing Role for her dy­namic por­trayal of Min­nie in the play Ivor John­son’s Neigh­bours, adapted for the stage by Char­lie Rhin­dress from the novel by au­thor Bruce Gra­ham.

Nom­i­nated for Out­stand­ing Per­for­mance by an Ac­tor in a Sup­port­ing Role is the late Bill Forbes, for his mem­o­rable por­trayal of Duddy, also in Ivor John­son’s Neigh­bours. Forbes, a re­spected the­atre artist and beloved friend, passed away sud­denly in July, 2009, near the close of the play’s run in Parrs­boro.

Dur­ing its 2009 sea­son, Ship’s Com­pany The­atre cel­e­brated its 25th an­niver­sary of pre­sent­ing live the­atre in Parrs­boro, and con­tin­ues to be a prime cen­tre for the de­vel­op­ment and pro­duc­tion of new At­lantic Cana­dian works. The Mer­ritt Awards will be handed out at Alder­ney Land­ing in Dart­mouth on March 29.
