Chronic disease program offered
- Residents of Cumberland County who are living with chronic health problems are being encouraged to sign up for the Your Way to Wellness chronic disease self-management program that is being held at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
“If you have a chronic health condition or want to better support a loved one who has such an illness, this free program can help those with chronic diseases overcome some of the daily challenges they face,” said Maryanne Jackson, co-ordinator of the Your Way to Wellness program.
The program teaches people how to cope with their dis- ease by eating healthier, managing symptoms, improving self-confidence as well as managing fear, anger and frustration. The program is led by trained volunteer lay leaders and runs for two-and-a-half hours once a week for six consecutive weeks.
“In addition to offering the program here in Amherst, we will also be offering this worthwhile program in River Hebert, Parrsboro, Pugwash and Springhill in the coming months,” added Jackson.
For more information on the program or if you are interested in becoming a lay leader, please contact Maryanne Jackson at 597-5400, extension 8145.
