Chronic dis­ease pro­gram of­fered

- Res­i­dents of Cum­ber­land County who are liv­ing with chronic health prob­lems are be­ing en­cour­aged to sign up for the Your Way to Well­ness chronic dis­ease self-man­age­ment pro­gram that is be­ing held at the Cum­ber­land Re­gional Health Care Cen­tre be­gin­ning on Tues­day, Jan. 25.

“If you have a chronic health con­di­tion or want to bet­ter sup­port a loved one who has such an ill­ness, this free pro­gram can help those with chronic dis­eases over­come some of the daily chal­lenges they face,” said Maryanne Jack­son, co-or­di­na­tor of the Your Way to Well­ness pro­gram.

The pro­gram teaches peo­ple how to cope with their dis- ease by eat­ing health­ier, man­ag­ing symp­toms, im­prov­ing self-con­fi­dence as well as man­ag­ing fear, anger and frus­tra­tion. The pro­gram is led by trained vol­un­teer lay lead­ers and runs for two-and-a-half hours once a week for six con­sec­u­tive weeks.

“In ad­di­tion to of­fer­ing the pro­gram here in Amherst, we will also be of­fer­ing this worth­while pro­gram in River He­bert, Parrs­boro, Pug­wash and Springhill in the com­ing months,” added Jack­son.
