Saint Paul the Apos­tle Church hosts an­nual scal­lop and ham sup­per

Greet­ings from the Boars Back. Con­do­lences go out to the fam­ily and friends of River He­bert na­tive Jessie Rea who passed away this past Thurs­day, Jan. 13 at the age of 92.

Dur­ing her life­time, the St. Charles Com­mer­cial School grad­u­ate worked at Robb’s En­gi­neer­ing for over three decades; she re­tired in 1983. In ad­di­tion, the late Jessie Rea was, amongst other things, the trea­surer of the River He­bert United Bap­tist Church, a Lady Sham­rocks’ softball player and a mem­ber of the Amherst Ladies Bowl- ing League.

Be­lated happy birth­day wishes go out to Mel Tower who marked his spe­cial day this past Wed­nes­day, Jan. 12. Happy Birth­day Mel!

Any­one in­ter­ested in do­nat­ing an item for the silent auc­tion ben­e­fit­ing Sharon Dee­gan can do so by con­tact­ing Peggy Her­ring Smith at 6641894 or on Face­book. The Sharon Dee­gan ben­e­fit dance will be tak­ing place from Fri­day, Feb. 4 to Satur­day, Feb. 5 be­tween the hours of 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. at the Amherst Lions Den on Elec­tric Av­enue.

In re­lated Sharon Dee­gan news, her sis­ter Kather­ine Chap­man was blessed with the op­por­tu­nity to have vis­ited with her this past week­end. Kather­ine Chap­man wrote via Face­book on Fri­day, Jan. 14 that she was “so ex­cited to be go­ing to Hal­i­fax to see Sharon and spend a cou­ple days with her; can’t wait to see her.” Here’s hop­ing that you two had a re­ally nice visit with one an­other.

River He­bert Branch Li­brary Re­minder: On Thurs­day, Jan. 27, the River He­bert Branch Li­brary will be hold­ing its monthly book club meet­ing be­tween 6 and 7 p.m. The book of the month is Mem­oirs of a Geisha.

On Satur­day, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m., the much an­tic­i­pated an­nual scal­lop and ham sup­per will be held in­side of the Saint Paul the Apos­tle Ro­man Catholic Church Parish Hall in River He­bert. Sup­per by pre­sale of tick­ets only. The cost of the sup­per will be $10 for adults; chil­dren 12 and un­der can eat for $5.
