AMHERST – Seniors in the Cumberland area will have dedicated space and continued study of their needs thanks to recent grants from the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors.

Five thousand dollars from the Age-Friendly Communities Grant program was awarded to each the Municipality of the County of Cumberland and the Town of Amherst.

The county will use the funds to identify priorities and develop and implement action plans.

The town will install 10 public benches on Victoria Street.

“Seniors play a very important role in our communities,” said Brian Skabar, MLA for Cumberland North.

“I’m pleased that our government is providing money to these projects so that the needs of our seniors will be further met.”

Minister for Seniors, Denise PetersonRafuse, announced nearly $397,000 for 71 projects to support seniors on Jan. 24.
