Bantam, Peewee Ramblers take Bluenose gold
With wins over Sackville, N.B. and Truro on Sunday
SPRINGHILL - A pair of Cumberland County teams took home championships during the opening weekend of the 49th Carter’s Sports Cresting Bluenose Minor Hockey Tournament.
Colson Brown’s second goal of the game with just 4:09 to play was the winner as the Cumberland County Amherst Toyota Ramblers edged the Truro Bearcats 2-1 to claim the peewee AA championship.
Madden Miller got the lone assist on the goal.
After Brown opened the scoring midway through the second period, with Noah Harrison adding an assist, Keegan McCumber tied it for Truro late in the second period.
In the bantam AA final, the Cumberland County Marcom Ramblers got revenge with a 7-2 win over the Sackville Rangers.
Avery Harrison had a goal and two assists for the Ramblers, who blew the game open with five second period goals.
Braydon McNeil, Mats Stone, Tanner Bowen, Alex Griffiths and Dylan Deegan each had a goal and an assist for the Ramblers while Zach Chatfield scored once. Zack Gould and Nate Stone each added assists.
Tyler Long and Jeff Lafford scored for Sackville.
In peewee play, Elliott McNutt scored late as the Ramblers edged the Sackville Macs 2-1. Brown also scored while Matthew Hunter, Bryson Chapman and Harrison added assists.
Connor Cadman scored for the Macs.
Hunter’s second goal of the game gave the Ramblers a 3-2 win over the West Hants Warriors in Springhill. Chapman added a goal and an assist with Bird adding two assists and Matheson chipping in a single helper.
Ryan McLellan and Chris Brown added single goals for West Hants.
In their final round robin game, the Ramblers and Truro tied 3-3 as Mitchell Rector scored a power play goal with 28 seconds left for the Bearcats.
Brown, McNutt and Mason Bird each scored single goals while Harrison, Chapman, Bird, Jayden Matheson, Julian MacDonald and Braydon Nichol each added assists.
Ewan MacKinnon and Ben Stevens also scored for Truro.
The Bantam Ramblers opened with a 6-4 loss to Sackville.
Seth Smith had two goals and an assist for Sackville while Brody Tower had a goal and two assists and Kyle Trenholm had a goal and an assist. Jacob Estabrooks and Lafford each had single goals.
Bowen had two goals for the Ramblers with Nate Stone and Chatfield each scoring once. Jackson Comeau, Griffiths, Mats Stone and Dante Coulter each had assists.
Nate Stone had two goals and an assist as the Ramblers defeated Acadia 8-1.
MacKenzie Comeau, Harrison, McNeil, Jackson Comeau, Griffiths and Bowen also scored in the win with Bowen adding three assists and Chatfield chipping in a pair. Griffiths, Dylan MacKay and Mats Stone added single assists.
Harrison’s second period goal was the winner as the Ramblers nipped the Shediac-Cap Pele Predators 3-2.
Jackson Comeau and McNeil also scored while Andrew Rideout and Chatfield added assists.
The opening weekend also included action in the atom AA division while the Kent Novice Ramblers also played. There was also a Tim Hortons Timbits jamboree.
The second weekend of the tournament is Dec. 5 to 7.
