Ban­tam, Pee­wee Ram­blers take Bluenose gold

With wins over Sackville, N.B. and Truro on Sun­day

SPRINGHILL - A pair of Cum­ber­land County teams took home cham­pi­onships dur­ing the open­ing week­end of the 49th Carter’s Sports Crest­ing Bluenose Mi­nor Hockey Tour­na­ment.

Col­son Brown’s sec­ond goal of the game with just 4:09 to play was the win­ner as the Cum­ber­land County Amherst Toy­ota Ram­blers edged the Truro Bearcats 2-1 to claim the pee­wee AA cham­pi­onship.

Mad­den Miller got the lone as­sist on the goal.

After Brown opened the scor­ing mid­way through the sec­ond pe­riod, with Noah Har­ri­son adding an as­sist, Kee­gan McCum­ber tied it for Truro late in the sec­ond pe­riod.

In the ban­tam AA fi­nal, the Cum­ber­land County Mar­com Ram­blers got re­venge with a 7-2 win over the Sackville Rangers.

Avery Har­ri­son had a goal and two as­sists for the Ram­blers, who blew the game open with five sec­ond pe­riod goals.

Bray­don McNeil, Mats Stone, Tan­ner Bowen, Alex Grif­fiths and Dy­lan Dee­gan each had a goal and an as­sist for the Ram­blers while Zach Chat­field scored once. Zack Gould and Nate Stone each added as­sists.

Tyler Long and Jeff Laf­ford scored for Sackville.

In pee­wee play, El­liott McNutt scored late as the Ram­blers edged the Sackville Macs 2-1. Brown also scored while Matthew Hunter, Bryson Chap­man and Har­ri­son added as­sists.

Con­nor Cad­man scored for the Macs.

Hunter’s sec­ond goal of the game gave the Ram­blers a 3-2 win over the West Hants War­riors in Springhill. Chap­man added a goal and an as­sist with Bird adding two as­sists and Mathe­son chip­ping in a sin­gle helper.

Ryan McLel­lan and Chris Brown added sin­gle goals for West Hants.

In their fi­nal round robin game, the Ram­blers and Truro tied 3-3 as Mitchell Rec­tor scored a power play goal with 28 seconds left for the Bearcats.

Brown, McNutt and Ma­son Bird each scored sin­gle goals while Har­ri­son, Chap­man, Bird, Jay­den Mathe­son, Ju­lian MacDon­ald and Bray­don Ni­chol each added as­sists.

Ewan MacK­in­non and Ben Stevens also scored for Truro.

The Ban­tam Ram­blers opened with a 6-4 loss to Sackville.

Seth Smith had two goals and an as­sist for Sackville while Brody Tower had a goal and two as­sists and Kyle Tren­holm had a goal and an as­sist. Ja­cob Estabrooks and Laf­ford each had sin­gle goals.

Bowen had two goals for the Ram­blers with Nate Stone and Chat­field each scor­ing once. Jack­son Comeau, Grif­fiths, Mats Stone and Dante Coul­ter each had as­sists.

Nate Stone had two goals and an as­sist as the Ram­blers de­feated Aca­dia 8-1.

MacKen­zie Comeau, Har­ri­son, McNeil, Jack­son Comeau, Grif­fiths and Bowen also scored in the win with Bowen adding three as­sists and Chat­field chip­ping in a pair. Grif­fiths, Dy­lan MacKay and Mats Stone added sin­gle as­sists.

Har­ri­son’s sec­ond pe­riod goal was the win­ner as the Ram­blers nipped the She­diac-Cap Pele Preda­tors 3-2.

Jack­son Comeau and McNeil also scored while An­drew Ride­out and Chat­field added as­sists.

The open­ing week­end also in­cluded ac­tion in the atom AA di­vi­sion while the Kent Novice Ram­blers also played. There was also a Tim Hor­tons Tim­bits jam­boree.

The sec­ond week­end of the tour­na­ment is Dec. 5 to 7.
