Amherst’s free ice­time pi­lot pro­ject is gen­er­at­ing a lot of at­ten­tion not only in Nova Sco­tia, but also across North Amer­ica. The town im­ple­mented the pro­ject to in­crease phys­i­cal fit­ness lev­els among young peo­ple and to in­crease use of the Amherst Sta­dium. To date, the sta­dium’s use is up 12 to 15 hours per week. Cum­ber­land-Colch­ester MP Bill Casey an­nounced more than $90,000 in in­fra­struc­ture fund­ing for three com­mu­nity projects on Mon­day. The largest is a $70,000 con­tri­bu­tion to the Cum­ber­land Snow­mo­bile Club to sup­port up­grades to its trail sys­tem. Fund­ing was also an­nounced for Branch 10 of the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion in Amherst and the Ox­ford Lions Club.
