Bursary to be given in memory of Coates

The Citizen-Record (Cumberland) - - COMMUNITY - Gail Wagstaff

The weather has been unusually cold for this time of the year. I am hopeful that the last few weeks of June will be much warmer and more seasonable.

I am enjoying the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Major League Baseball, as always.

If you are interested in Chair Tai Chi (low impact/gentle exercise) it is being held on Friday, June 9, at the FPW Fire Hall. I believe this will extend for 18 weeks. Please call Sharon at 902-348-2105 or Barb at 902348-2939 for more information.

The Shore Drive Community Development Association presents a $200 bursary to any graduates from Wharton to Brookville who go on to further their education at university or community college. From this point forward, the association will be presenting this bursary in memory and in honour of Gordie Coates, who for many years contributed so much to improving and enhancing the quality of life for all residents in this area.

Call Barb at 902-348-2939 for more information on a cake decorating workshop scheduled for Thursday, July 13, at the FPW Fire Hall.

Soon the Shore Drive association will be announcing the date for a beach walk in the West Bay area, led by Dick MacAllister, a summer resident. Stay tuned for more details.

Sharon Benjamin has created a beautiful quilt to honour and represent the Canada 150 celebration. Soon, tickets will be available for a raffle of this unique and beautiful keepsake.

The Foxy Lady is out of news for now. Have a great week, everyone.
