The Fellas come to Wentworth
On the 53rd anniversary of the opening of the present building of the Wentworth United Church, a special service was held and featured the talented singing group, The Fellas, coming from Amherst.
The anniversary is celebrated every year and, as usual, a meal of salad, ham, and anniversary cake with ice cream was served at 5 p.m. with an open invitation to everyone posted. At this time, the minister, Rev. Jean Ward, was attending the Maritime Conference of the United Church in Sackville, N.B. Members of the congregation organized the celebration.
The celebration began in the downstairs church hall and, after the meal of friendship and goodwill, the service moved upstairs to the sanctuary for a service featuring The Fellas, who sang, a cappella in beautiful harmony, in a spirited and sincere style, many favourite hymns and songs. Their resulting enthusiasm made all present feel glad the church had been built and had served the community all these years.
The names of The Fellas as follows: Peter Hebb, Bill Thomson, Bill Digdon, Richard Logan, Jim MacDonald, Angus Cameron, Kim DeLong and Glen White.
Of the 13 hymns and songs which The Fellas sang, I will take space to list a few: “Soon and Very Soon,” I Saw the Light,” “Turn Your Radio On,” “Just a Closer Walk With You,” “Shall We Gather at the River,” “Precious Lord,” “Our Father,” and “Let’s Go Down to the River.”
The director of The Fellas, Glen White, said that they are happy to sing at any gathering, especially small church groups, and may be reached at his phone number 902-667-9133 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. As well, Bill Thomson can be contacted at his e-mail: email@example.com.
This year, the women of the congregation serving the meal made a pledge to all dress in skirts as a memory of past times.
The Fellas from Amherst sang a wonderful concert a cappella at a celebration at the Wentworth United Church.
