Free camping ex­pe­ri­ence for Grade 4 stu­dents

Pro­gram in­vites stu­dents, fam­i­lies to en­joy camping

Ev­ery Grade 4 stu­dent in the prov­ince will get two free nights in one of 20 provin­cial camping parks.

The Grade 4s Out­doors Pro­gram, launched last spring, in­vites stu­dents and their fam­i­lies to en­joy camping, and also pro­vides a na­ture pass­port to en­cour­age ex­plo­ration of parks or any nat­u­ral out­door space.

Grade 4 stu­dents will re­ceive a pack­age con­tain­ing the na­ture pass­port and a camp­site coupon for two free nights in any of the camping parks. The Depart­ment of Nat­u­ral Re­sources has sent the ma­te­ri­als, avail­able in English and French, to ev­ery ele­men­tary school.

Govern­ment is also once again part­ner­ing with Scouts Canada – Nova Sco­tia Coun­cil to of­fer the Learn2Camp pro­gram this sum­mer as another way to pro­mote camping. Peo­ple who ap­ply will learn es­sen­tials such as how to build a fire, cook meals out­doors, set up a tent, and choose camping equip­ment. The week­end pro­gram will be held at Blo­mi­don Provin­cial Park, in the An­napo­lis Val­ley, July 29 and 30.
