Cum­ber­land RCMP in­ves­ti­gat­ing Springhill ATV col­li­sion

RCMP are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a sin­gle-ve­hi­cle ATV col­li­sion that took place just be­fore 5 p.m. on Sun­day, Aug. 6, on McGee Street in Springhill.

The pas­sen­ger, a 19-year-old man from Amherst, sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries and was trans­ported by EHS to the Cum­ber­land Re­gional Health Care Cen­tre. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Springhill, fled the scene but was later ap­pre­hended by RCMP. He was trans­ported to hos­pi­tal with non-life-threat­en­ing in­juries.

Ini­tial in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­di­cates the ATV was trav­el­ling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost con­trol on a turn and struck a pole. Charges are pend­ing against the driver un­der the Off High­way Ve­hi­cle Act, Mo­tor Ve­hi­cle Act and Crim­i­nal Code.

An RCMP Col­li­sion An­a­lyst was called to the scene to as­sist with the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
