Pink Thun­der with BNS Divi­sion 3 cham­pi­onship

The Pink Thun­der from Springhill de­feated Pic­tou County Light­ning 46-44 to win the Bas­ket­ball Nova Sco­tia Under 16 Girl’s Divi­sion 3 cham­pi­onship.

Erica MacAleese was named the player of the game for the Pink Thun­der.

“We had re­ally good chem­istry most of the week­end. The girls played within them­selves and worked hard,” coach Phil Scott said. “We strug­gled with scor­ing in the fi­nal game. Pic­tou gave us good pres­sure and made key timely shots. In the end, our de­fence was key. We were able to make our foul shots at the end of the game when they forced us to the line.”

The Pink Thun­der opened with a 60-28 win over Amherst with Bre­anna Gabriel earn­ing player of the game hon­ours hile in their sec­ond game the Pink Thun­der thumped the Cape Bre­ton Magic 68-29. Emma Mat­tin­son was player of the game.

In the sem­fi­nal game, the Pink The Pink Thun­der claimed the Bas­ket­ball Nova Sco­tia Under 16 Girl’s Divi­sion 3 ti­tle at Sackville Heights Ju­nior High on Sun­day with a nar­row two-point win over the Pic­tou County Light­ning. Thun­der de­feated the Ma­raud­ers 68-29 while the Light­ning de­feated Amherst 40-32.

Emma Mat­tin­son was named

to the tour­na­ment all-star team and Lucy Scott was se­lected as the tour­na­ment’s most valu­able player.
