A sign of summer, Sandpiper Restaurant reopens

The Citizen-Record (Cumberland) - - COMMUNITY - Mary Patterson

Noted the passing of Cathleen O’Connor, Halifax, on March 31. Sympathy to her brother, Bob O’Connell, Pugwash Point, and all family members. Condolences also to Anthony Harvey, Becky and children, Port Howe, on the passing of his father, Doug Harvey, St. John’s, NL, on April 17.

It’s nice to see that the Sandpiper Restaurant in Port Philip opened again on April 19. We are very fortunate to have so many great dining places to choose from, especially when all are open in the summer time.

Speaking of which, Shirley White and Faye Moore, Conns Mills, enjoyed lunch at the Sandpiper on Thursday. On Saturday, Leona and Mike Sachs, Halifax, along with Ella Lockhart, Westchester, and her friend, Maria, Truro, visited with Shirley, and all enjoyed dinner at the Sandpiper; and on Sunday Barry and Ronalda White, Shirley and Rev. Meggin King enjoyed lunch at the Sandpiper.

Birthday wishes go out this week to Darren Gray, Truro; Sue Darragh, Pugwash Point; Alvin Elliott, Cecil McIvor, Noah Pollard, Jean McKenzie, and Claire McKim, Pugwash; and Greg Nix, Pleasure Cove.

I accompanied Peggy Wentzell to Amherst on Thursday, where we kept some appointments and shopped. We both had to go to the motor cehicle office. We thought mid-morning would be a good time — not so. The place was packed. Went back later in the afternoon and only two others ahead of us.

Last week’s Co-Op Toonie draw winner was Shirley Dixon; this week’s winner was Valerie Brown. Beatrice Mills was the winner of the Pugwash Firemen’s 50/50 draw on Wednesday and Patti Ferdinand was the consolation winner of Chase the Ace draw held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Peace Branch Number 60, Pugwash, on Saturday. Congratulations, ladies!

Shirley Fortier, Riverview, Paul Fahey, Port Howe, and Peggy Wentzell, Pugwash, were callers with Mary Doyle this week.

Folks, watch for posters about the upcoming Fashion Show at the Curling Club on May 10, with proceeds for Calvary United Church, Port Howe. They are selling tickets in advance so they will know how many to prepare refreshments for. Tickets are $12 each. I have some tickets, if anyone is interested.

Callers with me this week include Diane Reid, Gulf Shore; Stephen Russell, Wallace Bridge; Roberta Angevine, Fountain Road; Gerald Halverson, West Pugwash; Janet Gullens and Peggy Wentzell, Pugwash; Kate Wilson and Bruce Gullon, Wallace; Denise, Dana and Kevin had supper with me on Tuesday.

Hope you all remember to get your income tax done by the end of this month.

Please keep all our sick and shut-in neighbours and friends in your thoughts and prayers this week.
