The num­ber of pub­lic sec­tor work­ers in Nova Sco­tia who were forced into a new wage pack­age when the Lib­er­als pro­claimed Bill 148. The strong-hand tac­tic comes af­ter talks be­tween the gov­ern­ment and the 8,000 civil ser­vants rep­re­sented by the NSGEU broke down weeks ago. Health­care work­ers, civil ser­vants and any other union­ized pub­lic sec­tor em­ploy­ees with­out a con­tract will now be given a three per­cent wage in­crease over the next four years. It’s the same of­fer the province hoisted on teach­ers ear­lier this year. Labour Re­la­tions min­is­ter Mark Furey told re­porters Tues­day at an im­promptu press con­fer­ence that “we did not take this op­tion lightly.”
