RCMP seek assistance in vehicle fire
Placentia Whitbourne RCMP received a call of a vehicle on fire at Placentia Junction, last Wednesday, June 3.
The vehicle was located on the old railway bed. Whitbourne fire department distinguished the flames and with the assistance of the police dog searched for evidence.
The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire. Police are treating the incident as suspicious and are asking the public’s help in assisting them with the matter. The public is encouraged to contact the Whitbourne Detachment at 759-2600 or crime stoppers (1-800-222-8477) or www.rocktips.ca.
The same day the detachment was successful in solving a false report of a break, enter and theft. A 28-year-old male from Dildo reported his home was broken into and a quantity of money was stolen May 23. Police investigated the matter and found the facts of the case were not adding up.
Further investigation lead to the man telling police that he made the story up to cover up personal problems that he is currently going through.
The Dildo resident will be charged with public mischief and will appear in provincial court St. John’s at a later date.
RCMP stopped a motor vehicle for a broken taillight on the TCH near Bellevue, June 2. A 39-year-old Trepassey man has been charged with impaired driving.
