Alcohol and drugs affects our thinking, our inhibitions, and our behaviour. We can become more violent, less patient, and what we do or do not do, may affect the rest of our lives.

You are not yourself when you are under the influence of mindaltering substances, such as drugs and alcohol, including prescription drugs. But this is no defence for our actions.

Please remember, life is precious, drugs of any kind can harm you and others.

If you are a victim of violence or if you know someone who is a victim of violence please find a way to get it reported — there is help available. Communities Against Violence is a local committee that is there for you, as is Victims Services. There is somewhere to turn. You are not alone.

We can also see from this week’s report impaired drivers continue to be apprehended by police. If you consume alcohol and make the poor decision to drive a vehicle, not only are you committing a criminal offence, you are risking your life and the lives of others.
