Le­gion plans July 1 ser­vice, con­grat­u­lates cadet

The July 1 Memo­rial Ser­vice and Pa­rade was fore­most on the agenda at the reg­u­lar monthly meet­ing of Branch 15, Royal Cana­dian Le­gion, held at the Har­bour Grace clu­b­rooms June 2.

Branch 15 also ex­tended con­grat­u­la­tions to Sa­man­tha Crocker, who was awarded the Le­gion’s Cadet Medal of Ex­cel­lence.

The award rec­og­nizes an in­di­vid­ual’s en­deav­ours in cit­i­zen­ship that meet or en­hance the aims and ob­jec­tives of the Cadet move­ment. It is pre­sented to the cadet who has met all re­quire­ments of the unit’s an­nual manda­tory and op­tional train­ing pro­grams. The re­cip­i­ent must have par­tic­i­pated in a min­i­mum of three com­muni- ty ser­vice events and en­hanced the cadet unit through co­op­er­a­tion with peers and sub­or­di­nates by pro­mot­ing good­will and morale within the unit. The cho­sen re­cip­i­ent is a cadet who sup­ports and as­sists fel­low cadets and is in­volved in the lo­cal com­mu­nity.

The award is based upon a rec­og­nized na­tional stan­dard in or­der to main­tain the pres­tige and value of the award through­out Canada.

Branch 15 will meet again at 7:30 p.m. June 23 to fi­nal­ize plans for sum­mer events.
