Plans go ahead for 350th cel­e­bra­tion in Pla­cen­tia

Year 2012 an­niver­sary of French land­ing in 1662


In 2012, Pla­cen­tia marks the 350th an­niver­sary of the French land­ing on th­ese shores, which hap­pened in 1662.

To help cel­e­brate the oc­ca­sion, a num­ber of peo­ple in the Pla­cen­tia area are work­ing on plans for a Come Home Year to be held in Pla­cen­tia for 2012 that same year, to re­ally make the event some­thing to re­mem­ber.

Donna Grif­fin is one of the or­ga­niz­ers, along with Margie Hat­field, her­itage and tourism di­rec­tor for the town of Pla­cen­tia.

Plan­ning is un­der­way for a Come Home Year in Pla­cen­tia to en­com­pass all out­ly­ing ar­eas in­clud­ing Fox Har­bour and Ship Har­bour, Point Verde and the U. S. Naval Base that was lo­cated in Ar­gen­tia. Or­ga­niz­ers would like the event to take place in 2012 to mark the 350 an­niver­sary of the French land­ing in Pla­cen­tia (Plai­sance) in 1662.
