Plans go ahead for 350th celebration in Placentia
Year 2012 anniversary of French landing in 1662
In 2012, Placentia marks the 350th anniversary of the French landing on these shores, which happened in 1662.
To help celebrate the occasion, a number of people in the Placentia area are working on plans for a Come Home Year to be held in Placentia for 2012 that same year, to really make the event something to remember.
Donna Griffin is one of the organizers, along with Margie Hatfield, heritage and tourism director for the town of Placentia.
Planning is underway for a Come Home Year in Placentia to encompass all outlying areas including Fox Harbour and Ship Harbour, Point Verde and the U. S. Naval Base that was located in Argentia. Organizers would like the event to take place in 2012 to mark the 350 anniversary of the French landing in Placentia (Plaisance) in 1662.
