Let there be lights in Bay Roberts

The Compass - - FRONT PAGE -

For the 12th consecutive year, Bay Roberts is gearing up to flick the switch and light up the Conception Bay North town for its annual Festival of Lights.

Next Monday, Nov. 30 has been set as the date for the festival’s official opening, which will include the tree lighting, Christmas Park in the Wilbur Sparkes Recreation Complex and Illumination Parade. The event is scheduled to get underway at 6:30 p.m. starting at Amalgamated Academy.

A sleigh full of Christmas activities, everything from breakfasts, lunches, and dinners to parades, church services, Christmas concerts and a variety of night life offerings will continue until Saturday, Jan. 9, with a Christmas Day dinner and dance at the Royal Canadian Legion.

Many of the activities the town has hosted over the years have become so popular that they will continue, as they have now become part of the festival tradition.

“ While our festival is centred around Bay Roberts,” the town’s director of development Ron Delaney says, “actually it has more of a regional scope and anyone who would like to join us in celebrating the season of Christmas will be more than welcome.”

Check out next week’s issue of The Compass for a complete schedule of festival events.
