Winter’s first blast didn’t stop the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department from proceeding with their 59th annual Santa Clause Parade this year. We have the photo highlights.

BEST CLOWN - David Murphy of Harbour Grace was named best clown in this year’s Carbonear Santa Claus Parade. Murphy has been clowning around the parade now for more years than he cares to remember. It’s all for the fun of it!

CORNERSTONE - Wishing everyone “ the best of Christmas,” Cornerstone Baptist Church finished in third place (non-commercial) with this entry.

SNOOPY - Snoopy vs. the Red Barron took top spot for Newfoundland Power in the commercial category at this year’s Carbonear Santa Parade. Sponsored by the town’s volunteer fire department, the parade took place during a snowstorm Sunday, Dec. 6.

C.A.M. ELECTRIC - C.A.M. Electric took second place (commercial) in the Carbonear Volunteer fire department’s Santa Claus Parade.

CHARACTERS - Carrying their banner, this trio of characters wished everybody a Merry Christmas from the T.C. Square.

WINTER WONDERLAND - The snow that fell Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6 added just another touch to the T.C. Square’s theme for their Winter Wonderland float, which took third place (commercial) in the 59 Carbonear Santa Parade sponsored by the town’s volunteer fire department

DOGBERRIES - With dogberries dangling from a tree, Santa waves from his sleigh as it pulls off the parking lot of the Carbonear General Hospital Dec. 6 to begin the Carbonear Volunteer fire department’s 59th parade. In the 31 years he has been playing Santa in the parade, honourary firefighter, George Power has never seen a parade day quite as stormy as this one.

GIRL GUIDES - Dressed as Christmas boxes, the Carbonear Girl Guides took first place (non commercial) for their float in the 59th Carbonear Santa Claus Parade.

ORIGINAL - This 1950 GMC pumper is as old as the Carbonear Santa parade itself - 59 years. In the early days of the parade, and for most of the 1950s, it was the only ‘ float’vehicle in the parade and used to go all around town with Santa on board distributing loot bags to the children.
