Woman succumbs to injuries
A 42-year-old Carbonear woman,
succumbed to her injuries last Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 23, less than 48 hours after being struck by a vehicle on the T.C. Square parking lot Monday night, Dec. 21. Sgt. Rick Robinson of Trinity-Conception district said late Wednesday “ the woman passed away at the Health Sciences Centre (in St. John’s) this afternoon.”
He said, “ the victim’s name is being withheld from publication at this time pending consent of the family.”
Early Tuesday morning RCMP reported the victim to be in critical condition suffering from serious head injuries after she was struck by a vehicle on the T.C. Square parking lot the night before.
Sgt. Rick Robinson reported at approximately 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21 officers responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on the T.C. Mall parking lot near Dominion.
“Investigation and interviews of witnesses indicate (the woman) was crossing from the parking lot towards the Dominion entrance of the Mall,” the police spokesman noted
“A vehicle being driven by a 29 year old Carbonear man was travelling along the lane in front of the Mall and struck the woman,” Sgt. Robinson said in his initial report.
The vehicle that struck the woman was reported to be Honda Civic.
The woman was taken to Carbonear General Hospital and later transferred to the Health Science Centre in St. John’s, where she remained “ in critical condition... with serious head injuries,” according to police
Sgt. Robinson said, “ it appears weather and poor visibility were major contributing factors; speed does not appear to have been a factor. The matter remains under investigation.”
