Bac­calieu ju­nior girls’ volleyball team tops in re­gion

The Bac­calieu Col­le­giate ju­nior girls’ volleyball team are the champs for the third straight year.

The Bac­calieu girls won the re­gional volleyball gold medal de­spite drop­ping the first game in the best-of-three fi­nal to Amal­ga­mated Academy’s Grade 9 team on Feb. 3 at Bac­calieu Col­le­giate, Old Per­li­can. Bac­calieu won the sec­ond game to force a tiebreaker, which turned out to be a close game, with Bac­calieu edg­ing Amal­ga­mated 15-12.

Kai­ley Noo­nan of Bac­calieu Col­le­giate won the tour­na­ment’s sports­man­ship award.

The tour­na­ment also in­cluded teams from St. Fran­cis, Har­bour Grace; St. Peter’s, Up­per Is­land Cove and Holy Redeemer, Spa­niard’s Bay as well as a Grade 8 team from Amal­ga­mated, Bay Roberts.
