Irish Cup popularity growing

With the CBN Lightning split into colour-themed squads for its third annual Irish Cup indoor soccer tournament March 12-13, it seems fitting the tourney was won by the team wearing green.
CBN Lightning Green, led by team captain Ryan Dawson, defeated CBN Lightning Gold to win the Irish Cup, while CBN Lighting Blue won the bronze medal over CBN Lighting Red on the strength of a penalty-shot goal by Skyler Lush-Miller. Winning team members included Ryan Dawson, Colby McCabe, Jessie Clarke, Dylan Butler, Aaron Batten, Shawn Bussey, Lakeisha Butler, Jamie McHugh, Vanessa Linthorne and Valerie Croke.
Lightning team manager Robert Tarrant said he’s not surprised that the popularity of the tournament - held at All Hallows Elementary for players in Grades 4 to 7 - is growing.
“ This tournament is the highlight of our winter soccer program. The excitement builds throughout March and we get children who have never played soccer before register for this event,” he said in a press release. “ We were really hoping we could invite clubs from outside this year but our numbers were just too large at the club level.”
