BROOKINGS, FLORENCE – Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizen’s Nursing Home, Carbonear on Thursday, March 18, 2010, Florence Brookings of Old Perlican, age 92 years. Predeceased by husband: Clarence; brothers: Lester, Llewellyn and Simian; sister: Millicent; grandson: Jamie; sons-in-law: Frank Adams and Theodore Rodgers. Leaving to mourn daughters: Norma and Geraldine (Gerald); sons: Lester ( Ruth), Llewellyn ( Virenna), Max ( Betsey), Leonard (Marilyn); fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a large number of friends and relatives. Rev. Yvonne Hopkins and Rev, Jesse Bown conducted the funeral service on Monday the 22nd of March at St. Andrews by the Sea United Church, Old Perlican. Interment followed in the United Church Cemetery, Old Perlican. In lieu of flowers donations were made to a charity of one’s choice.
FRY, ERIC M. – Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on March 26, 2010, Mr. Eric M. Fry of Upper Island Cove in his 70th year. Predeceased by his parents: William and Eliza Fry; brother: James; brother in-law: Eric Rodway. Left with fond and loving memories his wife: Florence; sons: Tony (Cherie), Dean (Mandy); Jason ( Shannon); Scott ( Amy); grandchildren: Brandon, Lindsay and Eric; sisters: Olga Rodway and Eliza (Gerald) French; brothers: William (Margaret), Joseph (Phyllis); sister-in-law: Jessie and many relatives and friends. Rested at Hussey’s Funeral Home in Upper Island Cove. The funeral was held on Monday, March 29, 2010 from St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Upper Island Cove followed by interment at the Anglican cemetery in Upper Island Cove.
OATES, David – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, David Oates aged 72 years. Predeceased by his father: Frederick Oates; mother: Hilda Oates Lee; sister: Clara Mugford and sister-in-law: Mary Oates. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife: Norma ( Miskell); step-daughters: Cathy Marley and Chrissy Miskell; six grandchildren: Nick, Caitlin, Ben, Jake, Sascha and Holly; brothers: Doug, Jack (Geraldine), Winston ( Barbra Baker), Walter ( Jean), Nelson (Linda), Noel (Lois Anne); sister: Beulah (Ralph Parsons); brother-inlaw: Ernie Mugford and his faithful friends: Mr. B and Perry as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Rested at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue . Funeral Service was held at Barrett’s Chapel on Saturday, Apr 3 followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
