BROOK­INGS, FLORENCE – Passed peace­fully away at the In­ter­faith Ci­ti­zen’s Nurs­ing Home, Carbonear on Thurs­day, March 18, 2010, Florence Brook­ings of Old Per­li­can, age 92 years. Pre­de­ceased by hus­band: Clarence; broth­ers: Lester, Llewellyn and Simian; sis­ter: Mil­li­cent; grand­son: Jamie; sons-in-law: Frank Adams and Theodore Rodgers. Leav­ing to mourn daugh­ters: Norma and Geral­dine (Ger­ald); sons: Lester ( Ruth), Llewellyn ( Virenna), Max ( Bet­sey), Leonard (Marilyn); fif­teen grand­chil­dren; seven­teen great-grand­chil­dren and a large num­ber of friends and rel­a­tives. Rev. Yvonne Hop­kins and Rev, Jesse Bown con­ducted the fu­neral ser­vice on Mon­day the 22nd of March at St. An­drews by the Sea United Church, Old Per­li­can. In­ter­ment fol­lowed in the United Church Ceme­tery, Old Per­li­can. In lieu of flow­ers do­na­tions were made to a char­ity of one’s choice.

FRY, ERIC M. – Passed peace­fully away at the Carbonear Gen­eral Hospi­tal on March 26, 2010, Mr. Eric M. Fry of Up­per Is­land Cove in his 70th year. Pre­de­ceased by his par­ents: William and El­iza Fry; brother: James; brother in-law: Eric Rod­way. Left with fond and loving mem­o­ries his wife: Florence; sons: Tony (Cherie), Dean (Mandy); Ja­son ( Shan­non); Scott ( Amy); grand­chil­dren: Bran­don, Lind­say and Eric; sis­ters: Olga Rod­way and El­iza (Ger­ald) French; broth­ers: William (Mar­garet), Joseph (Phyl­lis); sis­ter-in-law: Jessie and many rel­a­tives and friends. Rested at Hussey’s Fu­neral Home in Up­per Is­land Cove. The fu­neral was held on Mon­day, March 29, 2010 from St. Peter’s Angli­can Church in Up­per Is­land Cove fol­lowed by in­ter­ment at the Angli­can ceme­tery in Up­per Is­land Cove.

OATES, David – Passed peace­fully away at the Health Sciences Com­plex on Tues­day, March 30, 2010, David Oates aged 72 years. Pre­de­ceased by his fa­ther: Fred­er­ick Oates; mother: Hilda Oates Lee; sis­ter: Clara Mug­ford and sis­ter-in-law: Mary Oates. Leav­ing to mourn his loving and de­voted wife: Norma ( Miskell); step-daugh­ters: Cathy Mar­ley and Chrissy Miskell; six grand­chil­dren: Nick, Caitlin, Ben, Jake, Sascha and Holly; broth­ers: Doug, Jack (Geral­dine), Win­ston ( Bar­bra Baker), Wal­ter ( Jean), Nel­son (Linda), Noel (Lois Anne); sis­ter: Beu­lah (Ralph Par­sons); brother-in­law: Ernie Mug­ford and his faith­ful friends: Mr. B and Perry as well as many nieces, neph­ews, other rel­a­tives and friends. Rested at Bar­rett’s Fu­neral Home, 328 Hamil­ton Av­enue . Fu­neral Ser­vice was held at Bar­rett’s Chapel on Satur­day, Apr 3 fol­lowed by in­ter­ment at Mount Pleas­ant Ceme­tery.
