Men face drug, weapons charges
Two men from the Carbonear area arrested late last week on drug and weapons related charges are in police custody where they will remain until their next court appearance Thursday April 22.
The accused men appeared in Provincial Court in Harbour Grace last Friday, April 16 to face the charges.
Lead Investigator Cst. John Hedges said bail was denied for both accused men, who were arrested Thursday April 15 after police found a quantity of ecstasy pills, a 9-inch dagger-type knife and a piece of 2 x 3 wood with a number of nails sticking out of the end in their vehicle.
“One man is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and resisting arrest,” the RCMP spokesman said. The other man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Sgt. Rick Budden said members of the Trinity-Conception District RCMP checked a suspicious vehicle near the mall in Carbonear Thursday afternoon. The police arrested the two men when they discovered a quantity of Ecstasy pills. When police searched the vehicle they found a 9-inch dagger type knife and a piece of 2 X 3 with a number of nails sticking out of the end.
Sgt. Budden told The Compass both defendants are in their early twenties. One is from Carbonear while the other is from Victoria.
