Po­lice lay im­paired driv­ing charges

Mem­bers of the Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP laid charges of im­paired driv­ing in two sep­a­rate in­ci­dents ear­lier this month.

The first in­ci­dent oc­curred July 17 dur­ing a pa­trol in the Town of Bay Roberts when of­fi­cers ob­served a ve­hi­cle driv­ing er­rat­i­cally.

The ve­hi­cle was stopped, and both the driver, a 33-year-old male from St. John’s, and a 33-year-old male pas­sen­ger, were ar­rested.

Wit­nesses had re­ported that both men had taken turns op­er­at­ing the ve­hi­cle.

The St. John’s man was is­sued a 24hour sus­pen­sion of driv­ing priv­i­leges, while the Par­adise man was charged with im­paired op­er­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle and will ap­pear in court on Sept. 7.

In an­other in­ci­dent on July 18, po­lice ob­served an off-road bike driv­ing at high speed in Car­bon­ear. The op­er­a­tor, a 27-year-old male from the town, was ar­rested for im­paired op­er­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle and will ap­pear in court on Sept. 20.

He was also is­sued tick­ets un­der the All-Ter­rain and Snow­mo­bile Act for op­er­at­ing an ATV on a road­way with­out a valid driver’s li­cence. In other mat­ters: July 18 A red Sony video cam­era and a black Canon pow­ershot cam­era and case with ac­ces­sories were stolen from a ve­hi­cle in Spa­niard’s Bay.@$:July 17

A 22-year-old man from Bay Roberts was charged with as­sault for an al­leged in­ci­dent in­volv­ing a 24-yearold woman from the town. A court date was set for Sept. 20.@$:July 14

A 42-year-old woman from Car­bon­ear was ar­rested for as­sault with a weapon, ut­ter­ing threats and be­ing un­law­fully in a dwelling house af­ter a 20-year-old male from the town Car­bon­ear re­ported be­ing struck with a metal pipe. The woman will ap­pear in court on Sept. 20.A 57-year-old man from But­lerville will ap­pear in court on Sept. 7 on a charge of as­sault. He was ar­rested af­ter a 30-year-old woman from But­lerville re­ported be­ing punched in the face.@$:
