New season underway
Three teams are competing in the Carbonear Molson slo-pitch softball league this season.
The league opened its 33rd season July 8. Here are some of the results:
Game 1 - Butt’s Esso 20, Rock Hard Construction 18
Jeff Parsons belted two home runs, two of his five hits on the night, and Chad Parsons also had one as Butt’s got past Rock Hard. Chad Parsons and Ryan Parsons had four hits each, while Gerard Griffin reached base three times. Cecil Taylor had four hits in a losing cause.
Game 2 - West Side Charlies 26, Butt’s Esso 5
Scott Cleary had four hits, including two homers, to pace the winners. Paul McCarthy and Cory Mahaney also had four hits, Sam White had three hits and Eric Penney slammed a home run. Stephen Peach had three hits for Butt’s.
Game 1 - Butt’s Esso 17, West Side Charlies 15
Three hits each came off the bats of Stephen Peach, Chad Parson and Trevor Baldwin as Butt’s outlasted West Side. One of Peach’s hits was a round-tripper, and Jeff Parsons also homered. For the losers, Paul O Leary had three hits, Jamie Clarke belted two home runs, and Mike Whiteway had two hits, including a home run.
Game 2 - West Side Charlies 24, Rock Hard Construction 18
Mike Whiteway had two home runs and John Thistle also cleared the outfield fence for West Side. Whiteway finished the night with four hits, while Paul R. O’Leary had three hits. Dennis King had four hits, including two home runs, in a losing cause.
Game 1 - West Side Charlies 20, Rock Hard Construction 16
John Jacques, Cory Mahaney and Paul O Leary had four hits each for West Side, while Curtis Squires had three hits. Mike Squires belted a home run.
Robbie Harris, Blair Parsons,
Brad Baker, Brian Fitzgerald, Bradley Harris, Randy Moores and Keith Peddle had two hits each for Rock Hard.
Game 2 - Rock Hard Construction 13, Butt’s Esso 8
Ryan Dean and Bradley Harris homered for Rock Hard in their first win of the young season, while Trevor Gear, Stephen King, Brad Baker and Keith Peddle had two hits each. Jeff Parsons and Brad Mooney had two hits each for the losing side.
Game 1 - Butt’s Esso 12, Rock Hard Construction 8
Jeff Parsons and Dan Keats homered for the winners, while Brian Fitzgerald and Dennis King both cleared the fence in a losing cause.
Game 2 - Butt’s Esso 15, West Side Charlies 5
Jeff Parsons and Grant Tobin clocked home runs, while T.J. Badcock , Stephen Peach, Karl Oates, and Mike Rowe had two hits each. Top batters for the losers were Paul O Leary and Jamie Bursey, with two hits each.
