The Moore the Merrier
First ever Moore Family Reunion
The Moores of Bay de Verde have never held a family reunion in its 200-plus year history. This will change on Aug. 2-7, when a celebration of family and history will be held. “ We look forward to learning more about who we are by virtue of from where we came,” said Catherina M. Kennedy, reunion organizer.
Kennedy is a descendant of Edmund Moore who arrived in Bay de Verde from Kimaganney, Ireland, in the late 1700s or early 1800s.
The weeklong celebration will bring together relatives from elsewhere in Canada and the United States. Some of them “ have not seen each other for more than 30 years,” added Kennedy.
The reunion will begin with a mass of celebration on Aug. 2 at Presentation Convent Chapel, Convent Square, St. John’s, followed by a bonfire at Middle Cove Beach. The week of events will conclude with Bay de Verde Day on Aug. 7. “A convoy of Moores will descend on our ancestral commuity,” Kennedy said. In between, there will be a regatta eve pub night and the annual Rose Kennedy Golf Classic and dinner. The family will also take in the running of the Royal St. John’s Regatta, followed by a karaoke night on Aug. 4.
