The host CBN Lightning team claimed the first annual Klondyke Cup under14 soccer tournament July 31 with a dominating performance at the three-team event.

The Lightning squad went undefeated in the tournament, outscoring the opposition 20-3. Other entries included teams from Trinity-South and Placentia. Coach Robert Tarrant attributed the success of his team to the high level of committment exibited by all the players.

“ We always get a high turnout at our practices, which allows players to develop their game skills and help them reach a high level of conditioning,” he said.

This was the second tournament victory for the Lightning in less than a week.

Earlier, the team travelled to St. Lawrence and defeated the host team by a margin of 7-1 and a blended team from Marystown and Burin 5-2.
