Calling bird watchers
Break out the binoculars and guide books. The Shearstown Estuary Green Team will be hosting a bird watching workshop on Thursday, Aug. 19.
The workshop begins at 1:30 pm at the Shearstown Estuary Green Team office, located at No. 6 Conception Bay Highway, Bay Roberts, and coninutes well into the evening. The event is free and open to the public, and food and refreshments will be served, said Green Team leader Keshia Parsons. “Everyone is welcome to participate in this event as it is sure to be a very educational and fun experience for anyone with an interest for bird watching or outdoor activities,” said Parsons. They’re calling it a community stewardship workshop, and partners include the provincial Department of Environment and Conservation, the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Information will be provided on the identification of shorebirds, waterfowl, songbirds and landbirds, and the birdwatching begins at roughly 7:15 p.m.
At 6 p.m. there will be an intermission for a barbecue where hamburgers, hotdogs, salads and beverages will be provided by Eastern Habitat Joint Venture.
Participants are encouraged to bring along a camera, rain clothes, and any binoculars or birding guides they have. Some guides and binoculars will be provided by the Shearstown Estuary Green Team.
Registration forms may be obtained from the Shearstown Green Team office at the Shearstown Estuary. Early registration is encouraged to allow for preparation.
