Call­ing bird watch­ers

Break out the binoc­u­lars and guide books. The Shearstown Es­tu­ary Green Team will be host­ing a bird watch­ing work­shop on Thurs­day, Aug. 19.

The work­shop be­gins at 1:30 pm at the Shearstown Es­tu­ary Green Team of­fice, lo­cated at No. 6 Con­cep­tion Bay High­way, Bay Roberts, and con­in­utes well into the evening. The event is free and open to the pub­lic, and food and re­fresh­ments will be served, said Green Team leader Keshia Par­sons. “Ev­ery­one is wel­come to par­tic­i­pate in this event as it is sure to be a very ed­u­ca­tional and fun ex­pe­ri­ence for any­one with an in­ter­est for bird watch­ing or out­door ac­tiv­i­ties,” said Par­sons. They’re call­ing it a com­mu­nity stew­ard­ship work­shop, and part­ners in­clude the pro­vin­cial Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­ment and Con­ser­va­tion, the East­ern Habi­tat Joint Ven­ture and the Na­ture Con­ser­vancy of Canada.

In­for­ma­tion will be pro­vided on the iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of shore­birds, wa­ter­fowl, song­birds and land­birds, and the bird­watch­ing be­gins at roughly 7:15 p.m.

At 6 p.m. there will be an in­ter­mis­sion for a bar­be­cue where ham­burg­ers, hot­dogs, sal­ads and bev­er­ages will be pro­vided by East­ern Habi­tat Joint Ven­ture.

Par­tic­i­pants are en­cour­aged to bring along a cam­era, rain clothes, and any binoc­u­lars or bird­ing guides they have. Some guides and binoc­u­lars will be pro­vided by the Shearstown Es­tu­ary Green Team.

Reg­is­tra­tion forms may be ob­tained from the Shearstown Green Team of­fice at the Shearstown Es­tu­ary. Early reg­is­tra­tion is en­cour­aged to al­low for prepa­ra­tion.
