Industrial accident at Harbour Grace
At 5:12 p.m. on Aug. 13, Trinity Conception District RCMP received a report of an industrial accident that occurred at a wharf in Harbour Grace.
At the time of the incident, workers were offloading crab from a local fishing vessel.
Sixty-two-year-old Randell Drover was struck and knocked over by a forklift. Drover is from Upper Island Cove. The industrial vehicle was owned by Barry Group Inc.
Drover was taken to the Carbonear General Hospital. He was subsequently transported to the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s.
Drover was reported to be in serious but stable condition. There is no update on his condition, said Sgt. Rick Budden.
Investigation into this matter was carried out by the Trinity Conception District RCMP, in partnership with Government Services Occupational Health and Safety.
At 9:12 p.m. on the same day, a second accident was reported to the Trinity Conception District RCMP.
Thirteen-year-old Shawn Vokey was riding his bicycle in the town when he was struck by a car. Vokey is from Spaniard’s Bay. The teenager was riding on the wrong side of the road, Sgt. Budden said.
There were no injuries sustained and no charges were laid.
