In­dus­trial ac­ci­dent at Har­bour Grace

At 5:12 p.m. on Aug. 13, Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP re­ceived a re­port of an in­dus­trial ac­ci­dent that oc­curred at a wharf in Har­bour Grace.

At the time of the in­ci­dent, work­ers were of­fload­ing crab from a lo­cal fish­ing ves­sel.

Sixty-two-year-old Ran­dell Drover was struck and knocked over by a fork­lift. Drover is from Up­per Is­land Cove. The in­dus­trial ve­hi­cle was owned by Barry Group Inc.

Drover was taken to the Car­bon­ear Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal. He was sub­se­quently trans­ported to the Health Sci­ences Cen­tre, St. John’s.

Drover was re­ported to be in se­ri­ous but sta­ble con­di­tion. There is no update on his con­di­tion, said Sgt. Rick Bud­den.

In­ves­ti­ga­tion into this mat­ter was car­ried out by the Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP, in part­ner­ship with Govern­ment Ser­vices Oc­cu­pa­tional Health and Safety.

At 9:12 p.m. on the same day, a sec­ond ac­ci­dent was re­ported to the Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP.

Thir­teen-year-old Shawn Vokey was rid­ing his bi­cy­cle in the town when he was struck by a car. Vokey is from Spa­niard’s Bay. The teenager was rid­ing on the wrong side of the road, Sgt. Bud­den said.

There were no in­juries sus­tained and no charges were laid.
