Members of Tricon Club Bell Aliant Telephone Pioneers presented five backpacks to Kevin Giles principal of All Hallows Elementary School on Aug. 30.

The North River school was one of seven schools in the Trinity Conception region to benefit from this programme.

Bell Aliant and The Bell Aliant Pioneers say they are “ very proud to support the Backpack For Kids Program, now in its seventh year.” Since the programme’s inception, the Pioneers say, “ we have donated over 15,000 backpacks across the Bell Aliant territory. So far this year we have filled over 3,000 backpacks at Bell Aliant and the number keeps growing every day.”

Bell Al iant purchases the backpacks and employees, retirees and sponsors buy school supplies to fill them. Each backpack is valued at over $ 50.

A spokesman for the group said thousands of school children across the region will be better equipped for another school year because of the continued commitment of Bell Aliant employees, retires, sponsors and Pioneer volunteers.

The Bell Aliant Pioneers organization in Atlantic Canada leads the collection and distribution of the backpacks to ensure they reach the schools in time for the school year to begin.
