Clarke’s Beach woman faces fraud charges

A woman from Clarke’s Beach ap­peared in court last week to face a long list of fraud charges.

Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion af­ter re­ceiv­ing a com­plaint from the Depart­ment of Fi­nance. The com­plaint in­di­cated a 35-year-old fe­male from the town was cash­ing and at­tempt­ing to cash forged cheques in the Trin­ity Con­cep­tion area.

As a re­sult of fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion, Lori Mon­a­han was ar­rested. She was re­manded in cus­tody on ap­prox­i­mately 27 out­stand­ing charges.

The charges in­cluded forgery, ut­ter­ing forged doc­u­ments, thefts, and breaches of court or­ders.

To­tal losses to date, as a re­sult of these crimes, are in ex­cess of over $20,000.

Mon­a­han ap­peared in court in Har­bour Grace on the morn­ing of Sept. 17, where she an­swered to the charges against her.

She was re­leased from cus­tody on a numbr of con­di­tions.

Her next court ap­pear­ance is set for Oct. 18.

Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP are re­quest­ing that any busi­nesses that have ac­cepted cheques in the name of Lori Mon­a­han to con­tact the Trin­ity Con­cep­tion District RCMP at 5965014.
