A new business, Tacamor Bay Roberts Call Centre, is about to throw open its doors.

The operation is located in the Braepar Building, on the Conception Bay Highway and former home of the Bay Roberts public library.

“It’s not your typical kind of business expansion story,” said Barry Snow, vice president of business development. “ There’s a really good story behind all of this. It’s about a group from rural Newfoundland growing their business and focusing on rural Newfoundland.”

All members of the executive team are from rural Newfoundland, he added. Snow himself is from Ochre Pit Cove.

Tacamor was incorporated in 2000. Since then, it has established call centres, delivering customer service and technical support for clients in the United States, Canada and Europe.

Co-founder and chief executive officer Ken Hann has over 30 years of experience in senior information and communication technology management.

Chief financial officer Larry Feltham brings to the business a general corporate background and a knowledge of the information technology industry.

He was instrumental in the start up and management of several companies. He also played a leading role in the privatization of Newfoundland and Labrador Computer Services, now known as xwave.

Tacamor’s main office and call centre are located in Placentia. In addition to the Bay Roberts call centre, the company has established multilingual operations in Toronto.

The Tacamor website ( http://www.tacamor.com) promises clients “exceptional call centre services,” designed to “improve ... profit margins.” It claims to do this “ by retaining more and happier customers, winning new ones and reducing costs.”

The Bay Roberts facility has already hired its complement of employees.

“ We have a group up from New York this week, doing initial training,” Snow told The Compass last week. “ We have another group coming up from New York next week to do more in-depth training with all the agents. So, the doors are unlocked, but the facility is not really open yet.”

Once training is complete, the call centre will be having its official opening.
