Man charged after daring daylight armed robbery
A 19-year-old male resident of Harbour Grace was charged with armed robbery when he appeared in Harbour Grace provincial court on Friday, Sept. 17. The defendant was denied bail and remanded into custody until his next court appearance Oct. 18.
The charges stem from an incident at the Shoppers Drug Mart in Carbonear the previous day.
Const. Chris Harris of Trinity Conception District RCMP said the accused “pulled a knife and demanded money” from an 18year-old male resident of Carbonear, who also happened to be in the store at the time.
Police received a call at approximately 12:30 p.m. that a male was inside the business with a weapon. Police arrived on the scene shortly after and arrested the male without incident.
“ There was no altercation and there were no injuries,” Harris said.
The victim was not an employee of the store, but “it’s believed the two knew each other,” Harris noted.
Aside from the armed robbery charge, the defendant also faces numerous breaches of court orders.
