Blue­berry run on the de­cline

But or­ga­niz­ers say num­bers grow­ing in younger di­vi­sion

Par­tic­i­pa­tion in the 10-kilo­me­tre por­tion of the an­nual Blue­berry Har­vest Run has been de­clin­ing.

But the three-kilo­me­tre race for younger par­tic­i­pants has grown in “ leaps and bounds” in the past few years, says Dave Squires, pres­i­dent of the Trin­ity Con­cep­tion Ath­letic Club, which or­ga­nizes the event.

Af­ter peak­ing at 167 run­ners dur­ing the event’s 25th an­niver­sary two years ago, num­bers had de­clined to

Some 129 run­ners take off up Ban­ner­man Street at the start of the 27th Blue­berry Har­vest Run. While the num­ber of run­ners in the event is de­clin­ing, num­bers in the 3-k event is grow­ing by leaps and bounds.
