Department has plans for Fire Prevention Week
The Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department has announced its plans for Fire Prevention Week, which takes place from Oct. 3-9.
This year’s theme is Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With.
Fire drills are scheduled for Carbonear Collegiate and Davis Elementary. At Davis, the department will sponsor a poster contest for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5, with the winners going to A& W Restaurant in a fire truck with two firefighters. Entries must be related to the theme of Fire Prevention Week.
The department will also pick a chief for a day. The winner will be brought to and from their home in a fire truck and receive a free dinner at McDonald’s, accompanied by two firefighters.
There will be an open house at the fire hall on Wednesday, Oct. 5, with rides on the fire trucks, complementary hot dogs and loot bags, and a visit from Sparky the fire dog.
The week will conclude with the annuall firefighter’s ball on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Knights of Columbus, starting at 7 p.m.
The Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department is planning a variety of events and activities as part of Fire Prevention Week 2010, which runs from Oct. 3-9.
