An unusual visitor had residents of Cavendish talking last week. A lone caribou was in the area, trying to make friends with local livestock. Animal lover Denise Critch got up close and personal with the animal.

The Heart’s Content Cable Station held an art workshop last month focusing on traditional Newfoundland and Labrador floor-mat making. Jacquey Ryan, a well-known multimedia artist, was the instructor. The eight participants designed, painted & created floor mats as they did in in this province in the 1800s. The workshop was held in commemoration of Pindikowski, the Polish painter who, in 1879, taught art to the wives and children of the company’s employees.
