Po­sei­don swims to vic­tory

The Po­sei­don Swim Club of Car­bon­ear was the top team at the open­ing meet of the 2010-11 sea­son.

The nine-per­son team beat five oth­ers based on the av­er­age score of each swim­mer at the meet. There were 166 swim­mers on hand for the pro­vin­cial devel­op­ment fall meet, hosted by the C. B. S Bluefins Oct. 15-17.

Laura Groves was the top per­former for Po­sei­don, plac­ing third over­all in the 13-14 fe­male age cat­e­gory be­hind first place fin­isher Jil­lian Byrne of the Bluefins and run­ner-up Laura Snow of the St. John’s Leg­ends.

In the 50-me­tre freestyle elim­i­na­tor races, Dylan Hoben of Po­sei­don fin­ished sec­ond in the 11-12 boys cat­e­gory with a time of 35.46. In the same age cat­e­gory for fe­males, Po­sei­don swim­mer Sarah His­cock also placed sec­ond with a time of 34.94.

Full meet re­sults were un­avail­able as ofThe Com­pass’ dead­line.

The lo­cal club was sched­uled to com­pete at the pro­vin­cial per­for­mance fall meet in Corner Brook this past week­end. Look for re­sults from that meet in the Nov. 2 edi­tion of The Com­pass.
