Poseidon swims to victory
The Poseidon Swim Club of Carbonear was the top team at the opening meet of the 2010-11 season.
The nine-person team beat five others based on the average score of each swimmer at the meet. There were 166 swimmers on hand for the provincial development fall meet, hosted by the C. B. S Bluefins Oct. 15-17.
Laura Groves was the top performer for Poseidon, placing third overall in the 13-14 female age category behind first place finisher Jillian Byrne of the Bluefins and runner-up Laura Snow of the St. John’s Legends.
In the 50-metre freestyle eliminator races, Dylan Hoben of Poseidon finished second in the 11-12 boys category with a time of 35.46. In the same age category for females, Poseidon swimmer Sarah Hiscock also placed second with a time of 34.94.

The local club was scheduled to compete at the provincial performance fall meet in Corner Brook this past weekend. Look for results from that meet in the Nov. 2 edition of The Compass.
