Under-12 team wins D soccer title
It may have happened more than two months ago, but members of the under-12 soccer team from Harbour Grace are still basking in the glory of their championship summer.
The team captured the provincial “D” division title in midAugust in Gander, edging Labrador West 32 in a final that was decided by a shoot-out.
It was the first under-12 provincial title for Harbour Grace in nearly a decade.
The championship game victory was sweet revenge for Harbour Grace, which lost 4-1 to Labrador West in the round-robin portion of the tournament.
Mark Ryan was the hero for Harbour Grace. He scored the game’s opening goal, and booted the deciding goal in the shoot-out. Matthew Hoyles also scored in the shoot-out. Labrador forced the shoot-out by scoring late in the contest.
Ryan was named MVP for the Harbour Grace squad, while Devon Groves received the hard hat award, and Ryon Willians was named most sportsminded.
