Poseidon laps it up

Team of two places second at Corner Brook meet

The Poseidon Swim Club of Carbonear managed just fine with only two swimmers at the provincial performance fall meet, held Oct. 2224 in Corner Brook.

Allison Somers and Benjamin Hiscock performed well enough to place second at the meet, trailing only the Stephenville Aqua Aces. Team standings were determined based on the average points total per swimmer on each team. A total of 65 swimmers attended the threeday meet.

Somers placed third in the girls 13-14 age category. She won the 100-metre fly event, posting a time of 1:14.30. She also had five secondplace finishes at the meet, along with a fourth-and fifth-place showing.

To be eligible to compete at the meet, Somers needed East Coast championship qualifying times, as was the case for all swimmers under the age of 15.

Hiscock’s best performance in the boys 15-18 age category was a third-place finish in the 100-metre breaststroke, where he recorded a time of 1:17.51.

The team’s next meet will be the fall classic meet, hosted by the St. John’s Legends on Nov. 5-7.
