Road repairs to start this week
Roads are also a concern in the community, and the deputy mayor said with a dwindling tax-base, government funding becomes a necessity for towns like Hant’s Harbour. Hurricane Igor adversely affected the situation with roads in the community.
The deputy mayor said the town has received emergency funding from the province to look after the road leading to Custard’s Head, where the lighthouse is located. The road connecting the town to its chlorination system for water was also washed out during Igor, and Tuck said repairs for that road are expected to commence this week.
“ The road is so bad, the guy who is looking after the chlorine is probably doing it on his ATV or four-byfour (truck),” he said.
Culverts by the brook from Short’s Pond were also impacted by the storm, and the deputy mayor said a contractor has been hired to work on repairs.
