Road re­pairs to start this week

Roads are also a con­cern in the com­mu­nity, and the deputy mayor said with a dwin­dling tax-base, govern­ment fund­ing be­comes a ne­ces­sity for towns like Hant’s Har­bour. Hur­ri­cane Igor ad­versely af­fected the sit­u­a­tion with roads in the com­mu­nity.

The deputy mayor said the town has re­ceived emer­gency fund­ing from the prov­ince to look af­ter the road lead­ing to Cus­tard’s Head, where the light­house is lo­cated. The road con­nect­ing the town to its chlo­ri­na­tion sys­tem for wa­ter was also washed out dur­ing Igor, and Tuck said re­pairs for that road are ex­pected to com­mence this week.

“ The road is so bad, the guy who is look­ing af­ter the chlo­rine is prob­a­bly do­ing it on his ATV or four-by­four (truck),” he said.

Cul­verts by the brook from Short’s Pond were also im­pacted by the storm, and the deputy mayor said a con­trac­tor has been hired to work on re­pairs.
