Ascension girls volleyball a winning bunch
The Ascension Collegiate girls’ volleyball team displayed ample talent in a pair of recent tournaments the school took part in.
At the 10th Ascension invitational, it bested seven other teams to win the tournament on Oct. 16. The following weekend, Ascension travelled to Clarenville to take part in the Subway Classic. There, the team made it to the semi-finals, where it lost to the eventual champions, the Clarenville senior “A” team.
At the Ascension invitational, the school finished second in round-robin play to Bishops College. It played Mourt Pearl Senior High in the semi-finals, and won two sets to one. Ascension faced Bishops in the final after having lost to the team from St. John’s in the round-robin. The team was able to redeem itself in the final by winning two sets to one.
Destiny Connolly and Brittany Lush were named tournament allstars, while Chantal Boone was awarded the tournament MVP award.
At the Subway Classic, Ascension placed second in its division for round-robin action, and went on to beat O’Donel High School from Mount Pearl in its quarterfinal contest, before losing to the host team in the semis.
This past weekend, the team was scheduled to travel to St. John’s for Volleyfest, the last volleyball tournament in the province. It will host 48 teams playing in three divisions.
