Area students win scholarships
Some 14 high school graduates from the Conception Bay North-Trinity South region have been awarded scholarships.
They were among some 200 students from across the province who will share in over $200,000 in scholarships. Education Minister Darin King announced the recipients on Nov. 2.
Some 12 students from this region were awarded $1,000 electoral district scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to three high school graduates in each district who achieved the highest public exam marks. The winners include the following: • Ascension Collegiate, Bay Roberts — Zachary Barrett, Victoria French, Nakita Ryan, Jennifer Smith and Alicia Mercer;
• Carbonear Collegiate — Karla Finn, Thomas Lafitte and Stacey Pike;
• Crescent Collegiate, Blaketown — Chelsea Gambin, Terry Reid and Andrew St. George;
• Baccalieu Collegiate, Old Perlican — Nadine Kelly.
Some 55 students received the Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarship, which is also valued at $1,000.
Two were from this region. They include the following: Alexander Morgan and Kayla Snow of Ascension Collegiate,
“ We are pleased to be able to provide this funding to assist these students as they move on to postsecondary education,” said King. “ Being awarded these scholarships is a clear indication of the importance each of them places on education, and I am confident each will f ind success in t h eir chosen careers.”
Recipients of the scholarships are chosen based on public examination results.
