Area teachers, support staff receive awards
Three area teachers and a school maintenance repairman were recognized last month for their dedication to their profession.
They were among 19 employees of the Eastern School District recognized with Awards of Excellence during a ceremony in St. John’s on Oct. 22.
The following received teaching excellence awards:
• Deanne Hiscock — music teacher, Amalgamated Academy, Bay Roberts;
• Zoe Hamilton — physical education/Grade 4, Davis Elementary, Carbonear;
• and Edward Jarvis — social studies, Carbonear Collegiate, Carbonear.
Randy Dobbin, a maintenance repairman at St. Francis School in Harbour Grace, received the support staff excellence award.
The Awards of Excellence program was established in 2009 to recognize administrators, teachers, student assistants, support staff and managerial employees who, through their daily work, find opportunities to lead, inspire others, and contribute to student and district success.
The awards were handed out by Ford Rice, the district’s CEO and director of education.
“ This program recognizes and reaffirms all the great work that is being done by so many dedicated people in the Eastern School District,” Rice said. “ To have colleagues, supervisors and parents nominate individuals for this award is an honour and testament to their hard work and dedication.”
In total, there were seven categories: teaching excellence, leadership excellence, managerial service, support staff excellence, administrative support, student support and curriculum support.
