Ta­ble ten­nis club wins medals

The CBN Ta­ble Ten­nis Club man­aged to put to­gether some im­pres­sive re­sults at the New­found­land and Labrador Ta­ble Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion’s Cen­tral Open in Spring­dale, held Oct. 23.

In the ju­nior cat­e­gories, a pair of team mem­bers won dou­ble-gold. El­iz­a­beth Hicks was the top player in both un­der-18 girls and the cham­pi­onship fe­male com­pe­ti­tions, while Nick His­cock won gold in the un­der-15 boys and E-rate sin­gles cat­e­gories.

In the se­nior di­vi­sion, Jerry His­cock won gold in both the A-rated sin­gles and un­der-40 male events. Dave Mil­ley took gold in the 40-and-over men’s di­vi­sion and sil­ver in A-rated sin­gles.

Three more play­ers won sil­ver medals: Adam His­cock in C-rated sin­gles, Clif­ford Smith in B-rated sin­gles, and Tony Smith in un­der-40 men’s.

The Car­bon­ear-based club will be keep­ing busy in prepa­ra­tion for the East­ern Open, which it will host Nov. 20 at Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate. Matches will get un­der­way at 9 a.m.
